High-profile tech figures and international political figures to attend amid heightened security and cold weather conditions.
On January 20, 2025,
Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, marking his second inauguration following his first term as the 45th president.
The inauguration ceremony, typically held outdoors on the steps of the Capitol, will be moved indoors to the Capitol's rotunda due to extremely cold weather conditions, with temperatures expected to range between -12° C and -6°C. This is a rare occurrence, reminiscent of Ronald Reagan's 1985 inauguration, which also had to be moved indoors due to severe cold.
Security measures for the event have been significantly heightened following two assassination attempts on the president-elect during the campaign period.
An estimated 25,000 police officers and military personnel have been deployed to secure the area, with strategic placements including 48 kilometers of barricades, snipers positioned on rooftops, and drones patrolling the skies.
The inauguration will witness the attendance of notable tech billionaires, including
Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos,
Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, and Shou Chew.
Additionally, several European far-right political leaders such as Giorgia Meloni from Italy, Marion Maréchal and Éric Zemmour from France,
Nigel Farage from the UK, and Tino Chrupalla from Germany are expected to be present.
The event will also feature performances by the Village People, known for their hit song 'Y.M.C.A.', country singer Carrie Underwood, and tenor Christopher Macchio.
Following the ceremony, Trump plans to attend multiple inaugural balls and events across Washington, D.C.
Additionally, the ceremony will be broadcast live at the Capital One Arena, with an audience of up to 20,000 people anticipated.
Approximately 220,000 tickets have been distributed for spectators to witness the event, although many are expected to watch from the National Mall.
The outgoing President
Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will participate in the handover of power.
Notably, former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, along with their spouses, will be in attendance, with the noteworthy exception of Michelle Obama.
Concurrently, a meeting of the Quad, involving the foreign ministers of Japan, India, Australia, and potentially the future U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is anticipated to take place.
In his first actions as president,
Donald Trump is expected to sign a substantial number of executive orders.
These are set to include measures on immigration, trade tariffs, and deregulation, alongside potential pardons for individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol event.
Trump's inaugural event, characterized by a blend of political, cultural, and historical significance, will close with a ceremony at Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday, rounding off the series of inauguration festivities.
