Hundreds Gather in Paris for Anti-Fascist Rally Following Knife Attack

The demonstration occurs days after a violent incident involving far-right groups targeting a Turkish cultural association.
On February 22, 2025, several hundred individuals gathered in Paris for an anti-fascist protest, a demonstration organized in response to a violent knife attack that occurred six days prior.

This rally took place at Place de la République, an iconic public square known for hosting various demonstrations across the city.

The protest was prompted by an incident on February 16, where a member of the Young Struggle collective, described as a socialist youth organization associated with the CGT labor union, was assaulted by individuals identified as belonging to far-right movements.

Reports state that around 20 individuals, masked and armed with broken bottles, entered the premises of a Turkish cultural association in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, where they attacked the member before fleeing the scene.

The victim was hospitalized for a few hours following the assault.

In connection with the attack, six young men were arrested and subsequently charged with aggravated violence.

One suspect, who reportedly had blood on his clothing and admitted to his involvement, has been placed in detention.

During the rally, attendees chanted slogans such as "Paris, Paris, Antifa!", "No quarter for fascists, no fascists in our neighborhoods", and "We are all anti-fascists".

The demonstrators displayed a red banner reading "No Pasaran", a reference to the historical anti-fascist slogan.

The event featured speeches from leaders within the anti-fascist movement.

One speaker from Young Struggle, standing on a static truck, emphasized the necessity of continuing the fight against fascism in Paris.

The rally also included pointed criticism directed at high-profile figures, with comments that linked the rise of the far-right to actions by individuals like Elon Musk and Steve Bannon, reflecting concerns over the normalization of extremist rhetoric.

The demonstration marked a significant moment in the ongoing discourse regarding the resurgence of far-right ideologies in Europe and the responses mobilized by grassroots movements opposing such trends.
