Jonas Vingegaard Reveals Concussion Following Paris-Nice Crash
The Danish cyclist experiences lasting symptoms after a fall during the race.
Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard has disclosed that he suffered a concussion following a crash during the fifth stage of the Paris-Nice race on March 13. Vingegaard, who was the holder of the yellow jersey at the time, exited the competition a day after his fall, experiencing hand bruising, as reported by his team, Visma Lease.
In an interview published by a Danish newspaper, Vingegaard described his post-crash condition, stating, "After the fall, I experienced dizziness, and after the stage, I was very nauseous and incredibly fatigued, which lasted for several days."
Due to his condition, the cyclist was unable to participate in the Tour of Catalonia scheduled for this week, feeling he had not sufficiently recovered from the accident.
He resumed cycling on March 20.
"I am happy to be back on the bike, even though it took a bit longer than I hoped due to my concussion, which required a lot of rest," Vingegaard remarked.
Vingegaard, 28, originally planned to take part in the Critérium du Dauphiné in June but has not yet established a timeline for his return to competitive racing.
"For now, we will take things day by day and let recovery dictate if we need to make changes or additions to my program," he stated.
Vingegaard is a two-time Tour de France champion and has a history of serious injuries, having sustained a significant fall during the Tour of the Basque Country in April 2024, which resulted in a 12-day hospitalization, including eight days in intensive care.
He acknowledged that he contemplated ending his cycling career following that severe accident.
