Liverpool Parade Incident Leaves Four Hospitalized, Including Child

A motorist plowed into a crowd celebrating Liverpool FC's victory, resulting in nearly 50 injuries.
On the evening of May 26, 2025, a motorist drove into a crowd celebrating Liverpool FC's triumph in the English Premier League, leading to four individuals, including a child, being hospitalized in serious condition.

This incident occurred during a large parade organized for the team's victory, with approximately 50 people reported injured overall.

Steve Rotheram, the mayor of the Liverpool region, provided updates on the victims, expressing hope for their quick recovery.

Emergency medical services confirmed that four children were among those injured, with one reported to be in critical condition.

Journalists on-site noted that a police cordon was still in place on May 27, as authorities conducted their investigations.

Coverage from various British tabloids highlighted the horror of the scene, with front pages showcasing images of injured supporters wearing Liverpool's team scarf, as well as distressing visuals recorded by witnesses.

The driver, a 53-year-old British man, has been arrested.

Police stated that the incident is deemed isolated and is not currently being investigated as an act of terrorism.

Merseyside Police Chief Jenny Sims confirmed that authorities do not seek any other suspects in connection to the incident.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes, with reports mentioning a driver reversing before accelerating into the crowd, resulting in pedestrians being struck.

Eyewitness Harry Rashid, who attended the parade with his family, recounted the terrifying experience, stating that all he could hear were the sounds of screams.

The parade had attracted hundreds of thousands of attendees, including families, who gathered to celebrate the return of their team’s achievements.

The procession, which spanned 16 kilometers, was nearing its conclusion around 6 PM local time when the incident occurred.

The incident has also evoked memories of a past tragedy in the city, specifically the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, which resulted in the deaths of 97 Liverpool supporters due to overcrowding at a football match.

The emotional impact of this recent event is further compounded by previous social tensions in the area.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the images of the incident as 'appalling' and expressed solidarity with those affected.

The football community has shown support, with rival clubs and global football leaders offering their thoughts and prayers for the victims.

This was the first public celebration of a Premier League title in 35 years due to restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic during Liverpool's last championship win in 2020.
