Monaco Hosts Inaugural Road Safety Day to Promote Sustainable Mobility
Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène champion road safety and soft mobility at the first Road Safety Day in Monaco.
Monaco held its first Road Safety Day on March 23, 2023, at the Larvotto Esplanade, transforming the beachfront area into a hub for cycling and road safety awareness.
The event attracted numerous residents and visitors, all eager to engage in activities focused on promoting sportsmanship and road safety.
Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène attended the event, exemplifying their commitment to the cause.
Princess Charlène, passionate about road safety, actively participated by riding a bicycle, demonstrating her personal dedication to expanding the initiatives of her Foundation, which previously focused on drowning prevention through programs such as 'Learn to Swim' and 'Water Safety.'
The event featured a vibrant program running from 10 AM to 5 PM, offering free activities for all ages.
A dedicated awareness village was set up in collaboration with organizations like the Monaco Red Cross, the Monaco Firefighters, and the Public Security.
This area included interactive workshops and practical demonstrations aimed at educating attendees about road safety.
Children particularly enjoyed a specially designed road safety circuit that enhanced their reflexes and bicycle handling skills in real-life traffic conditions.
For those seeking a challenge, a pump track was made available, providing a playful environment for cycling and skill development.
One of the highlights of the day was the Monabike Challenge, which commenced at 9:45 AM. Six teams, comprised of notable figures and representatives from various Monegasque institutions, participated in a relay cycling event that lasted for eight hours, traversing the streets of Monaco.
Throughout this period, the cyclists emphasized the importance of responsible and secure mobility, collectively covering significant distances.
A statement from the Foundation underscored the importance of each kilometer cycled, promoting a vision of a more sustainable and secure principality for all road users.
This inaugural Road Safety Day is expected to become an essential annual event in Monaco, aligning with the government's policies on energy transition and sustainable mobility.
