Monaco Prepares for Major Traffic Changes Ahead of 2025 Grand Prix Events

Monaco Prepares for Major Traffic Changes Ahead of 2025 Grand Prix Events

Comprehensive traffic restrictions and urban reconfigurations will be enacted in Monaco for the Monaco E-Prix and the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
In spring 2025, Monaco is set to undergo significant urban transformations to facilitate two prominent automotive events: the 8th and 9th Monaco E-Prix on May 3 and 4, followed by the 82nd Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix of Monaco from May 22 to 25. These high-profile international events necessitate a meticulous organization of traffic flow in the densely populated city-state.

A comprehensive traffic plan has been announced by the Princely Government, affecting the entire territory of Monaco.

From April 30 to May 25, with heightened restrictions during competition weekends, Monaco will adopt a markedly different appearance.

The most stringent restrictions will impact the iconic roadways that make up the racing circuit.

Routes including Quai des États-Unis, Route de la Piscine, Port Hercule, and Darse Sud will be entirely closed to traffic during both events.

For the E-Prix on May 3 and 4, restrictions will extend significantly, including closures of Boulevard Albert Ier, Place du Casino, Avenue des Citronniers, Avenue Princesse Grace, Avenue John F. Kennedy, and Boulevard Louis II. Additional notable streets such as Avenue de la Madone, Avenue de Monte-Carlo, Avenue d'Ostende, and approximately twenty other strategic thoroughfares will be temporarily inaccessible.

To maintain traffic fluidity despite closures, several streets will experience reversed traffic flow.

This includes Rue Princesse Florestine, Rue de Millo, Avenue du Port, and Rue Suffren Reymond during the E-Prix days.

Notably, Rue Grimaldi will operate as a two-way street between Rue Suffren Reymond and Place d'Armes on May 3 and 4, creating a new diversion route to absorb some of the traffic.

Parking will also pose challenges for residents and visitors, with prohibitions set to begin on April 30 in areas such as Rue Princesse Antoinette and Avenue de la Madone.

From May 2 to 4, over 35 streets and avenues will face parking restrictions with varying times, also applying from May 22 to 25 during the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Pedestrian access will be similarly restricted.

Without tickets or passes, individuals will be unable to access Quai des États-Unis, Route de la Piscine, Port Hercule, and Darse Sud throughout the two events.

The E-Prix will introduce additional access restrictions to places such as Quai Albert Ier, Costa Steps, Avenue de la Costa, Sainte Dévote Steps, Quai Antoine Ier, and several other critical pedestrian pathways.

The Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco (CAM) will implement diversions for all its lines during these events.

Passengers are encouraged to check the company’s website for real-time updates and information on service modifications.

Electric vehicle owners should also prepare for reduced availability of charging stations, as many Monaco ON charging points will be deactivated during the events.

Avenue de la Madone will be particularly affected, with inactivity from April 30 to May 4, and again from May 13 to May 30.

Real-time updates regarding traffic changes related to these events can be monitored using the Waze application, which provides links for specific events:

Residents and visitors to the Principality are advised to anticipate movement changes and favor public transport or alternative transport methods during these periods of heightened activity.
