Monaco Reaffirms Commitment to TV5Monde Amid Plans for New Television Channel

Monaco Reaffirms Commitment to TV5Monde Amid Plans for New Television Channel

The Principality of Monaco confirms its collaboration with the international francophone network TV5Monde, despite prior indications of a potential withdrawal.
On March 18, 2025, TV5Monde's communication service announced that the Principality of Monaco has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with the international francophone television channel, TV5Monde.

This announcement comes following discussions about the potential creation of a unified television channel, which would merge Monaco Info and TV Monaco.

The idea of stepping away from TV5Monde was initially raised by Monaco's Minister of State Didier Guillaume during budget debates in December 2024, where he mentioned, 'There will be a single, efficient, professional channel.

By September 1, 2025, we will have exited TV5Monde, or we will be in the process of exiting.'

The recent reaffirmation of partnership was established during a meeting on March 5, 2025, between Prince Albert II and Kim Younes, the CEO of TV5Monde.

This dialogue followed an earlier conversation with TV5Monde’s management and Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, the interim Minister of State, in February 2025, with the aim of pursuing a 'more fruitful cooperation for the influence of the Principality of Monaco,' which is currently undergoing a restructuring of its audiovisual sector.

Furthermore, as part of the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3), scheduled to take place in Nice from June 9 to 13, 2025, a new partnership will be established between Monaco and TV5Monde.

TV5Monde is set to provide exceptional coverage of the conference across all its media platforms, collaborating with TV Monaco and France Télévisions.

While details regarding the nature of the collaboration on the future Monaco-based channel resulting from the merger of Monaco Info and TV Monaco remain limited, the communication from TV5Monde did not expand further on this aspect as of March 18, 2025.
