Planned Relocation for Nice National Interest Market to Make Way for TGV Station
Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers to Move by 2026 Amidst TGV Station Construction Plans
The National Interest Market (Marché d'Intérêt National, MIN) in Nice, France, is set to partially relocate to facilitate the construction of the new Nice Aéroport TGV station.
By the first half of 2026, 16 fruit and vegetable wholesalers will be required to move into modular, demountable buildings as part of a land transition to the French National Railway Company (SNCF).
The current site occupied by the wholesalers will be transformed into a section of the parking area for the future Nice Aéroport station.
This move is part of the infrastructure preparations for the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, which are expected to significantly increase transport flow in the region.
The project is overseen by SNCF's Gares & Connexions subsidiary, the entity responsible for managing railway stations, which requires the expansion of the land presently used by the TER Nice Saint-Augustin station.
'We need part of this land to develop a section of the parking for the new station,' stated Gares & Connexions.
Bruno Bettati, chairman of the MIN d’Azur operations board, highlighted the importance of releasing the area timely for construction efforts to commence efficiently.
The relocation plan has been structured to ensure that there is 'no disruption of operations,' emphasizing continued business for the wholesalers.
Collaborative discussions have been ongoing among the wholesalers, the agricultural chamber, and metropolitan authorities to formulate a transition strategy that satisfies the operational requirements of both producers and users of the MIN.
Temporary facilities, including refrigerated modular and demountable structures covering 10,000 square meters, are slated for creation on an underutilized segment of the MIN parking area.
This would provide the wholesalers with optimal conditions for conducting business throughout the transition period.
The Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur has initiated a tender for the construction of these provisional buildings, aiming to maintain business continuity during the relocation.
