Prince Albert II Advocates for Multilateralism at Mediterranean Model United Nations in Monaco
Over 500 students gathered in Monaco to simulate a United Nations conference, focusing on strategic alliances and fostering dialogue amidst global uncertainties.
The Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDMUN) convened in Monaco, attracting over 500 high school and university students from around the world.
Hosted at the Grimaldi Forum, the event aimed to simulate a United Nations conference, offering a platform to propose collective and inclusive solutions to the current conflicts faced by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions.
This year's theme, "Strategic Alliances: New Generations Transforming Divisions into Dialogue to Shape the Future of the Mediterranean," featured delegations from numerous countries.
During the opening address, Prince Albert II commended the gathering of young talents from both sides of the Mediterranean and beyond to "debate, exchange, and build the future" of the region.
He described the event as "a true platform for dialogue and cooperation among the younger generations," uniting students passionate about international relations.
In a world marked by fragile international conditions, Prince Albert II emphasized the pivotal role of the United Nations in maintaining global security architecture and ensuring an international order based on law rather than force.
He encouraged the participants to engage in solidarity and cooperation.
"Today more than ever, our region is characterized by political, economic, and social fractures.
We are facing migration crises, persistent economic disparities, the rise of extremism, the effects of climate change, and many other challenges that require enhanced cooperation," he stated.
The Prince urged MEDMUN participants to embody hope, representing a youth that refuses to succumb to division and isolationist tendencies.
He stated, "You are here because you believe in diplomacy, negotiation, and the power of ideas to build a common future."
