Prince Albert II Visits Tende to Inaugurate Renovations Funded by Monaco
The Prince tours restored Clock Tower and Notre-Dame de la Miséricorde chapel, damaged by Storm Alex, with support from Monaco's government.
On Monday, Prince Albert II of Monaco visited Tende, France, where he was guided by the town's mayor, Jean-Pierre Vassalo, to view the renovations of the Clock Tower and the chapel of Notre-Dame de la Miséricorde.
Both structures were severely damaged during the devastation caused by Storm Alex in October 2020. The restoration was financially supported by the Principality of Monaco, which pledged four million euros to assist the affected French and Italian valleys after the catastrophic weather event.
The funding has been utilized for various renovation projects, including the restoration of cultural heritage sites and infrastructure improvements in the region.
For the chapel in Tende, the restoration efforts focused on repairing the bell tower, which had sustained significant damage.
The renovations of the Clock Tower involved addressing water infiltrations caused by the storm that affected the building's interior decorations.
The restoration works included the completion of new coatings and ensuring the structural waterproofing of the historic Clock Tower, which dates back to the 14th century.
The tower was elevated in the 19th century to accommodate a civil bell tower and a clock.
This restoration initiative underscores the ongoing commitment of the Monaco government to support neighboring communities impacted by natural disasters.
