Uber Eats Implements Minimum Payment for Deliverers in France
A new policy guarantees a minimum payment of €3 per delivery, marking a first in the French delivery sector.
Uber Eats has announced the introduction of a guaranteed minimum payment of €3 per delivery, a significant first in the French delivery sector.
This decision was made public on May 7, 2025, and will impact approximately 70% of the 65,000 independent deliverers using the platform, as many of their trips currently earn less than the new minimum, according to Bastien Pahus, general manager of Uber Eats for France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
Previously, the platform guaranteed a minimum of €2.85 per delivery.
Historically, Uber Eats did not have a guaranteed minimum payment and retained the ability to set delivery prices unilaterally.
The announcement follows recent data from the regulatory authority for the sector, Arpe, which highlighted a significant drop in the incomes of delivery drivers from 2021 to 2024. After factoring in inflation, the gross hourly rates reportedly decreased by 34.2% for Uber Eats, 26.6% for Stuart, and 22.7% for Deliveroo during this period.
Pahus characterized the new minimum payment as "a first step" toward addressing the ongoing concerns surrounding the compensation of independent deliverers.
Meanwhile, Fabian Tosolini from the sector's primary union, Union-Indépendants, acknowledged the move but deemed it "absolutely unsatisfactory" given the steep declines in earnings over recent years.
In addition to the new payment structure, Uber Eats announced a 2 million euro investment to support deliverers, which includes a reduction in monthly rental fees for electric bikes from 140 euros to 70 euros through a partnership with Zoomo.
Furthermore, about 100 restaurants in Paris will provide safety equipment kits for deliverers, which will include helmets, bike lights, armbands, and high-visibility vests.
These participating restaurants will also offer access to bathroom facilities for deliverers under a newly established commitment charter.
Finally, Uber Eats will subsidize vocational training for several dozen couriers in fields such as transportation, logistics, hospitality, and personal services.
