AS Monaco Basket Faces Financial Sanctions from Euroleague
Monaco's Basketball Team Penalized for Violating Financial Fair-Play Regulations
AS Monaco Basket, currently positioned third in the Euroleague, has been fined once more this season for financial discrepancies under Euroleague's fair-play regulations.
Despite having secured its fifth consecutive victory on the court, the club has been found in violation concerning its financial operations.
The Euroleague's financial regulations oversight body, the Commission de Contrôle de Gestion (CCG), issued a statement on January 14, 2025, revealing the club's breaches of financial regulations.
The commission identified two specific violations: the 'violation of shareholder contribution ratio requirements' and failure to provide necessary financial information for compliance assessment.
The CCG reports that AS Monaco Basket exceeded the shareholder contribution cap, set at 50% of the club's budget.
Additionally, the team did not adequately disclose financial details necessary for assessing its adherence to Euroleague's compliance standards.
A statement from AS Monaco Basket indicated that while the club has agreed to a financial penalty imposed by the Euroleague, they assert that these sanctions will not affect their operational activity.
The exact amount of the fine has not been disclosed.
This is not the first instance of financial penalization for the Roca Team this season.
In November 2024, the club was fined for undisclosed arrangements involving player image rights that affected its financial obligations to the Ligue Nationale de Basket-ball (LNB).
Such financial non-compliance is not unique to Monaco.
Earlier in January 2025, both Real Madrid and Barcelona faced similar scrutiny by the CCG for breaches related to Euroleague's financial fair play.
