Beau Nuage: The Niçoise Brand Transforming Umbrella Design

Founded by two friends, Beau Nuage has introduced an innovative eco-friendly umbrella and expanded its product line successfully amidst global challenges.
In 2016, two friends from Nice, Aurélien Rinaldi and Antoine Gros, set out to reinvent the humble umbrella after encountering a common issue during a rainy evening in London.

Struggling with a soaked umbrella and a wet floor at a restaurant, they were inspired to create a more functional solution.

This led to the birth of their brand, Beau Nuage, which offers a unique, eco-responsible umbrella design.

Beau Nuage's flagship product features a patented triple-layer absorbent cover, designed to contain moisture and prevent drips when storing the umbrella indoors.

The fabric used for the umbrellas is made from recycled plastics, with each umbrella using materials sourced from approximately six to nine recycled 500ml plastic bottles.

The main office of Beau Nuage is located in Nice, while the company's headquarters is based in Ardèche, France.

The founders first launched the brand with two people in 2016 and quickly achieved success and profitability.

However, they faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and again due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In response to these difficulties, they partnered with Maison Montagut, a family-run ready-to-wear company established in 1880, in 2023. This collaboration has permitted Beau Nuage to strengthen its structure and accelerate its growth.

Currently, approximately 15 individuals are employed at Beau Nuage across various roles, including design and e-commerce.

The company is on track to sell 70,000 umbrellas this year.

The brand's products are available in over 200 retail locations across France and internationally.

Beau Nuage is expanding its presence in Asia, with partnerships established in 20 stores in Japan, and is looking to penetrate the UK market.

This year, they anticipate entering the Chinese market thanks to Maison Montagut's industry experience.

In addition to umbrellas, Beau Nuage has also launched a rainwear collection that includes jackets, parkas, and fleeces for both men and women.

The company has experienced rapid growth in recent years and expects to double its revenue in 2025 compared to the previous year, while also returning to profitability.

Beau Nuage's marketing strategy has resonated well with consumers, as seen with their recent Mother’s Day campaign, promoting their umbrellas with the slogan, "Your mother has weathered storms for you, give her the most beautiful gift." They offer a variety of umbrella styles, including mini, automatic, and designer models, each with a robust and innovative framework.

All of Beau Nuage's products are tested and packaged at the ESAT d’Antibes, an establishment that supports individuals with disabilities in the workplace.

Although the umbrella frames are manufactured in Shanghai with carefully chosen factories, the brand emphasizes local sourcing and short supply chains whenever possible.

Looking ahead, Beau Nuage is set to expand its product line with a new item aimed at sunny weather: a breathable cap that is waterproof and made entirely from recycled materials.

This new accessory aims to highlight the company's commitment to sustainability while acknowledging that light can shine through even the most turbulent clouds.
