Donald Trump returns to Washington, D.C., as he prepares for his inauguration as the 47th U.S. President amid planned executive actions and public demonstrations.
Donald Trump arrived in Washington, D.C., on Saturday evening ahead of his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, set for Monday.
The event marks the beginning of a series of inaugural festivities lasting four days, which will culminate in a ceremony held inside the Capitol Rotunda due to cold weather conditions.
Trump, accompanied by his wife Melania and son Barron, made his way from Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
In an interview with NBC News, he reiterated his commitment to signing a record number of executive orders immediately following his swearing-in ceremony.
Trump, who served as the 45th President from 2017 to 2021, indicated that these orders could number in the hundreds and would focus on reversing policies instituted by outgoing President
Joe Biden.
Among the proposed policies, Trump has frequently mentioned the expulsion of millions of undocumented immigrants, increasing tariffs against Mexico, Canada, and China, and deregulating the energy sector.
Additionally, he plans to issue pardons for individuals involved in the January 2021 Capitol assault.
The enforcement of immigration laws is expected to begin swiftly, with approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants residing in the U.S. Tom Homan, appointed by Trump as the head of border protection efforts, stated that planning was underway for immigration enforcement operations.
However, Homan later clarified that specific decisions on these operations had not yet been finalized.
In response to Trump's return to power, demonstrators gathered in Washington, D.C., over the weekend, including those participating in a rally organized by public liberties and social rights groups.
The event, titled 'March of the People,' follows similar demonstrations that occurred after Trump's first inauguration in 2017.
Trump will partake in various events in the lead-up to his inauguration, including a visit to Arlington National Cemetery and a meeting with supporters at the Capital One Arena.
The inauguration will be broadcasted to those in attendance, followed by Trump delivering a speech.
Celebratory galas are scheduled for Monday evening, with events continuing until a service on Tuesday morning at Washington National Cathedral.
Trump's inauguration is notable for the cold weather, with temperatures forecasted to range from -12°C to -6°C, prompting organizers to move the ceremony indoors.
This decision was made to ensure the safety and comfort of attendees.
Despite these adjustments, the inauguration is set to proceed with a full schedule of activities and celebrations.
