Monaco's Princely Palace Unveils Hidden Renaissance Frescoes

Restoration efforts reveal significant artworks dating back to the Italian Renaissance, opening to the public on April 2, 2025.
Beginning April 2, 2025, the Princely Palace of Monaco will open its doors to display newly restored Renaissance frescoes, covering an area of 600 square meters within the Grand Apartments.

These frescoes have remained largely hidden from view for nearly five centuries, with conservation efforts commencing in 2015 leading to major discoveries and groundbreaking restoration techniques.

The restoration project, overseen by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, showcases the technique of sustainable restoration, aiming to preserve both the integrity of the artworks and the resources involved in their maintenance.

The significance of the artwork connects deeply with Monaco’s history and its long-standing cultural ties to the Mediterranean, enriching the Principality’s heritage.

Among the figures depicted are mythological heroes from antiquity, including Hercules, Ulysses, and Europa, whose stories are brought to life through these frescoes.

The revelation of these artworks is seen as a major contribution to the global history of art, marking a milestone in both the artistic and cultural narrative of Monaco.

Currently, visitors can explore the Grand Apartments of the palace, with opening hours varying between spring and summer.

Tickets are priced at €10 for adults and €5 for children aged 6-17 and students, with group rates available upon request.

The palace is accessible via public transportation, and parking is recommended at the nearby 'Parking des Pêcheurs.'

Future visits and themed tours can be organized for groups, and there are provisions for audio guides available in 11 languages.

The palace will be closed to the public on specific dates in May, June, and July.

Guests should note that while animals are not permitted, service animals are allowed.

For additional inquiries, an online ticketing system is available, and visitors are encouraged to secure their tickets in advance to facilitate a smoother experience.
