Monaco Welcomes Belgian Culinary Experience with New Collaboration

Frites Atelier and Smakelijk! Partner to Enhance Gastronomic Offerings at Le Méridien Beach Plaza
Le Méridien Beach Plaza in Monaco has launched a new culinary collaboration that introduces Belgian gastronomic delights to the Principality.

The partnership between Frites Atelier and the Belgian brasserie Smakelijk! aims to provide an exceptional dining experience for food enthusiasts.

Frites Atelier, known for its artisan fries, was founded by acclaimed chef Sergio Herman in 2016. This collaboration marks the first time these famous fries are available in Monaco, specifically within the Smakelijk! restaurant, which opened in February 2024. The fries are made from meticulously selected Dutch potatoes, offering a unique combination of a soft interior and crispy exterior.

The menu features innovative dishes such as pulled beef with red chimichurri mayonnaise priced at €20, saffron mussel aioli at €16, and 18-month aged Parmesan with fresh truffle costing €22.

In addition to the signature fries, Smakelijk! — which translates to "bon appétit" in Flemish — offers a diverse range of Belgian classics reimagined by the culinary director Laurent Colin and executive chef Alexandre Lamberet.

Highlights include Liège meatballs at €26, organic chicken vol-au-vent for €32, and a hazelnut and speculoos Paris-Bruxelles dessert priced at €12.

The establishment not only focuses on its culinary offerings but also pays homage to Belgian culture through its décor that combines Belgian Art Nouveau with a classic brasserie style, and music that is exclusively Belgian.

Furthermore, Smakelijk! has launched an ambitious cultural program, which includes the SMAKELIJK! Comedy Club featuring exceptional performances from Belgian Francophone stand-up comedians.

Every Sunday, the venue hosts a family brunch (€85 per person) that includes Belgian fries, oysters, a Belgian chocolate fountain, and Brussels waffles.

A complimentary kids club for children aged 4 to 12 is also available until May 2025.

Through this initiative, Smakelijk! aims to become a beacon of Belgian culture and cuisine in Monaco, inviting both residents and visitors to experience a culinary journey that celebrates the beloved Belgian fry.
