Tragic incident reported as officer prepares to head to work
A national police officer took his own life on Wednesday morning while en route to his workplace in the municipality of Cantaron, near Nice.
Born in 1973, the officer served as the chief of the Peille fire station and was assigned to the Nice police department for the duration of his career.
He was married and a father.
The news of his death has elicited significant emotional responses among his colleagues, both within the police force and the firefighting service.
A fellow policeman described him as a well-respected individual known for his kindness, expressing disbelief at the tragedy.
As is standard procedure in such circumstances, an investigation has been initiated.
However, the Nice prosecutor's office has declined to comment further on the situation at this time.
Initial reports suggest that the officer used his service weapon after parking his vehicle at the roadside before proceeding to take his life.
