AS Monaco Dominates ASVEL in Game 2 of Betclic Elite Semi-Final

The Roca Team equalizes series with a commanding 94-77 victory over ASVEL.
In a decisive Game 2 of the Betclic Elite semi-final, AS Monaco rebounded from their previous defeat against ASVEL by securing a 94-77 victory, leveling the best-of-five series at one game apiece.

The match took place at the Gaston-Médecin Stadium, where the Roca Team displayed a significant improvement in performance, showcasing their determination to reclaim home-court advantage.

Following a disappointing loss of 94-74 in Game 1, which took place two days earlier at the LDLC Arena, AS Monaco arrived with a renewed intensity and focus.

Changes to the starting lineup, including the integration of Georgios Papagiannis, proved effective as the Greek center contributed significantly to the score early in the game.

Monaco established a strong lead, dominating the boards and playing tenacious defense, reflecting a shift from their previous outing.

At halftime, Monaco held a commanding lead of 47-28, aided by a last-second three-pointer from Elie Okobo.

The team's overall strategy emphasized defensive rigor, which Matthew Strazel highlighted, attributing offensive momentum to their defensive consistency.

Despite a spirited effort from ASVEL, who narrowed the gap to 59-50 by the 28th minute, AS Monaco maintained their composure and executed their game plan effectively, with five players scoring between 12 and 21 points.

Strazel led the team in scoring, playing a pivotal role in turning the tide of the series.

Vassilis Spanoulis, head coach of AS Monaco, noted the difference in approach between the two games, emphasizing a heightened sense of urgency and concentration from his players.

He acknowledged the improved attitude displayed on the court.

ASVEL's coach, Pierric Poupet, recognized Monaco's strong performance and the lessons learned from the defeat, asserting that they had been reminded of the competitive level of their opponents.

With the series now tied, the teams prepare for Game 3, scheduled to take place in Monaco on Sunday.
