Eurovision 2025: France's Hopes Rest on Louane's Performance
As the Eurovision Song Contest returns to France 2, optimism surrounds Louane's chance to secure victory for France after nearly five decades.
The Eurovision Song Contest returns this Saturday on France 2, with Stéphane Bern and Laurence Boccolini at the helm.
This year, France is represented by Louane, who will perform her song "Maman" in the final, taking place in Basel, Switzerland.
Bern, a veteran commentator for the event, expressed his optimism regarding France's prospects, emphasizing Louane's talent and natural charisma.
"My main hope this year is Louane's victory.
We all dream of bringing the trophy back to France, and I believe it's possible because Louane is a wonderful artist," Bern stated.
Louane, who gained popularity in 2013 through the show "The Voice" and starred in the 2014 film "La Famille Bélier," delivers an emotional tribute through her song, which reflects her feelings for both her mother and daughter.
However, competition appears stiff, with the Finnish-Swedish trio KAJ currently being favored for their entry "Bara Bada Bastu," which humorously celebrates sauna culture.
Despite its appeal, Bern did not find the song compelling.
"I was not very impressed by this title.
I find the concept a bit caricatured.
Yes, it has third-degree humor, but I did not like it much," he commented.
Additionally, he admired entries from Norway, Poland, and the Netherlands during the semi-finals held on May 13.
France's last win at Eurovision was in 1977 when Marie Myriam secured first place with "L'Oiseau et l'Enfant." Bern remains hopeful, recalling recent improvements in France's standings in the contest with Amir finishing sixth in 2016 and Barbara Pravi placing second in 2021. “The curse that suggested we could no longer win has been forgotten, as we can certainly win again,” he added.
Predictions for the contest place France at the top, with Sweden, Norway, and perhaps Poland trailing behind.
