Former French Rugby Team Physiotherapist Dismissed for Allegations of Sexual Harassment and Assault
The French Rugby Federation has terminated the contract of a physiotherapist following allegations of serious misconduct involving national team players.
The French Rugby Federation (FFR) has dismissed a former physiotherapist of the national rugby sevens team due to allegations described as potentially qualifying as sexual harassment and assault.
This decision was confirmed on May 14, following initial reports.
The FFR stated that the physiotherapist's employment was terminated immediately, without prior notice or severance, and cited grave misconduct as the reason.
His contract had been previously suspended provisionally since January 2025, after reports of allegations were received.
These allegations triggered an external investigation which was conducted to assess the accusations involving members and staff of the French rugby sevens teams from 2017 to 2022. A preliminary report from this investigation, submitted to the FFR on April 29, 2025, highlighted behaviors that merit classification as harassment and sexual assault, according to the FFR.
In addition to the termination, the FFR has reported the case to the public prosecutor, committing to share all relevant information available regarding the case.
Reports indicate that three French international players, who were part of the team between 2017 and 2022, have raised concerns about inappropriate conduct during treatment sessions conducted by the physiotherapist.
The FFR has also announced plans to offer free legal and psychological support to any individuals wishing to file complaints concerning these allegations.
