Increased Drone Delivery Crackdowns Intensify Around Draguignan Prison
Three individuals arrested in separate incidents involving drone deliveries of narcotics and contraband.
In a significant escalation of efforts to combat drone deliveries to the Draguignan prison, three individuals were apprehended within a 24-hour period in connection with two distinct cases.
Police seized three drones intended for the delivery of narcotics and/or mobile phones as part of their ongoing operations.
The first incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, when police on patrol stopped a speeding vehicle near the correctional facility around 2:50 AM. A search of the car uncovered approximately 100 grams of cannabis and a knife.
The two occupants, both in their twenties, were taken into custody.
A subsequent search of their residence led to the discovery of two drones equipped with delivery systems, alongside ready-to-use packages containing an iPhone, three miniature mobile phones, and about 10 grams of cocaine.
The second operation was conducted on Tuesday evening as part of a previously planned surveillance initiative.
The national police's drone unit in Var, along with a drone detection vehicle from Marseille, assisted local officers from the Draguignan police station.
This led to the identification of an operator who had concealed himself in a bush while preparing to deliver narcotic products.
A police drone was deployed above his location, facilitating his apprehension shortly after midnight.
The suspect, a thirty-year-old resident of Puget-sur-Argens, was known to law enforcement and was caught with over 180 grams of cannabis resin and around 100 tablets of a substance known as 'pink cocaine,' a synthetic drug mixture.
These operations are part of broader collaborative efforts between the Draguignan prosecutor's office, prison administration officials, police, and gendarmerie, aimed at addressing drug trafficking and other related offenses in the region.
