Jean-Jacques Risso Appointed as New President of the Scientific Centre of Monaco
The appointment marks a new era for the renowned research institution dedicated to marine biology and human health.
As of March 6, 2025, Dr. Jean-Jacques Risso has taken office as the new president of the Scientific Centre of Monaco (CSM).
Before this position, he served as the director of the operational underwater research team at the Biomedical Research Institute of the Armed Forces in Brétigny-sur-Orge, France.
Dr. Risso succeeds Patrick Rampal, who led the CSM for two decades.
Born in Monaco on September 27, 1958, Risso is an alumnus of the University of Lyon I, where he obtained his doctoral degree in sciences for his thesis on 'the nervous syndrome of high pressures.' He is recognized for his expertise in human physiology related to diving.
His career began in 1980 when he worked as a civilian research engineer at the French military's marine studies and applied research center, focusing on the effects of high pressure on the central nervous system.
Over the years, he has led several research programs and published over 130 scientific articles in his field.
In his statements following the appointment, Dr. Risso highlighted the significant responsibilities of leading CSM, which is internationally recognized for its excellence in marine biology, polar biology, and human health.
He expressed gratitude towards his predecessor, Patrick Rampal, for his remarkable contributions to modernizing and expanding the research center.
Dr. Risso emphasized the CSM's reputation as a central player in global scientific research and reiterated the commitment to continue innovative and relevant programs essential for environmental preservation and sustainable future development.
