Product Recall: Contaminated Lentil and Smoked Tofu Salad at Monoprix
Monoprix issues a recall for a salad product due to potential listeria contamination.
Consumers are being alerted to a product recall concerning a prepared salad sold at Monoprix.
The 200-gram pack of 'Lentilles et Tofu Fumé' with vinaigrette from the Monoprix Bio brand has been identified as potentially contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, which is responsible for listeriosis.
The specific lot number affected is 25113, with a GTIN of 3350030157876, and it has a best-before date of May 11, 2025. This product was available for purchase in Monoprix supermarkets across France from April 26 to April 9.
Listeriosis is considered a serious but rare infection, with mortality rates ranging from 30% to 40% in cases occurring outside of pregnancy, according to health authorities.
Annually, around 350 cases of listeriosis are reported in metropolitan France.
In adults, the disease can manifest as bloodstream infection (septicemia) and can affect the central nervous system, leading to conditions such as meningitis or encephalitis.
For pregnant women, listeriosis can result in miscarriage, preterm delivery, or severe neonatal infections.
The incubation period for listeriosis can vary, extending from a few days up to two months.
Health recommendations to mitigate the risk of infection include thoroughly cooking animal-based foods, removing rinds from cheeses, washing vegetables and herbs meticulously, and ensuring that pre-prepared foods are heated to boiling before consumption.
