Carlos Alcaraz Triumphs Over Jannik Sinner in Epic Roland-Garros Final

In a record-breaking match, Alcaraz defeats Sinner to claim his second consecutive French Open title.
In a historic showdown at Roland-Garros, Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious against Jannik Sinner, winning a titanic battle that lasted 5 hours and 29 minutes, marking the longest final in the tournament's history.

The intense match concluded with set scores of 4-6, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (10/2), showcasing a remarkable display of skill and resilience from both players.

The final, held on June 8, 2025, witnessed two of the brightest stars in tennis, as Alcaraz, the 22-year-old Spaniard, rallied from two sets down against a clinical Sinner.

With this victory, Alcaraz secured his fifth Grand Slam title and solidified his status at the pinnacle of men's tennis, maintaining an undefeated record in Grand Slam finals.

Alcaraz's journey to the title saw him already claiming victories at the US Open in 2022, and Wimbledon in both 2023 and 2024. Over the course of the European clay season, he amassed an impressive record of 22 wins against just one loss.

This title comes after he had previously triumphed at the Masters 1000 events in Monte-Carlo and Rome earlier in the season.

The rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner has been emblematic of a new era in men’s tennis, particularly following the retirements of prominent players from the previous generation.

Notably, this final marked the first Grand Slam match between two players born in the 21st century, highlighting the shift in the sport's competitive landscape.

Alcaraz began strongly, showcasing aggressive play that earned him a break during the first set, but Sinner quickly responded, taking advantage of Alcaraz’s missteps and clinching the opening set.

The second set was marked by Sinner's formidable defense, which led him to win in a tiebreaker.

Facing defeat, Alcaraz fought back, decisively winning the third set before a dramatic fourth set ensued.

With Sinner poised to serve for the match, Alcaraz saved three match points with the support of a fervent crowd, ultimately winning the set in another tiebreak.

The final set was a closely contested affair, commencing with Alcaraz breaking Sinner’s serve.

However, Sinner's resolve saw him break back; the match extended to a super tiebreak, where Alcaraz dominated, securing seven match points.

He converted his first opportunity, sealing the match and embracing his team on court.

Alcaraz's victory reduces the points gap between him and current ATP number one Jannik Sinner to 2,030 points.

This fierce contest is anticipated to set the tone for future encounters, with potential rematches slated for upcoming major tournaments, such as the Wimbledon finals, where Alcaraz is aiming for a third consecutive title.
