Israeli military confirms airstrike targeted alleged militants in Khan Younès; civilian casualties reported
The Civil Defense of the Gaza Strip reported on May 23 that nine children belonging to a Palestinian couple, both medical professionals, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Younès, located in southern Gaza.
Mahmoud Basal, a spokesperson for the civil defense organization, stated that the bodies of the children, some reported to be carbonized, were recovered from the home of Dr. Hamdi Al-Najjar and Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar.
The airstrike reportedly struck their residence in the Gizan Al-Najjar neighborhood.
In response to inquiries regarding the airstrike, the Israeli military confirmed that an aircraft had targeted several individuals suspected of operating from a structure adjacent to the location where soldiers were deployed.
A military spokesperson noted that an assessment of civilian casualties is currently underway, specifically addressing claims regarding the impact on uninvolved individuals.
