Vintimille Seeks Exceptional Authorizations for Wild Boar Control

Mayor Flavio Di Muro requests emergency hunting measures due to increasing wild boar disturbances and property damage.
The city of Vintimille, located in the Italian province of Imperia, is facing a significant increase in wild boar populations, prompting local authorities to take action.

Mayor Flavio Di Muro has officially requested authorization for exceptional hunting measures to combat the growing problem, which residents have reported as increasingly concerning.

In a statement released to the press, Mayor Di Muro noted that wild boars have transitioned from being occasional visitors to becoming more frequent nuisances in residential areas.

Reports indicate that these animals have been damaging agricultural fields and posing safety concerns for the community.

In response to numerous complaints regarding the proximity of wild boars to homes and the destruction of crops, the mayor has sought approval after consulting with the Regional Commander of the Wildlife and Environmental Surveillance Corps.

"These animals are causing significant damage to properties and raising serious concerns regarding public safety.

We have received many reports and have decided to take action within the limits of our municipal competencies," stated Di Muro, alongside Agricultural Affairs Assistant Serena Calcopietro.

The areas most affected by the wild boar proliferation include the heights of Vintimille, with particular mention of Grimaldi, Mortola Superiore, Seglia, the upper part of Via Gianchette, and Latte, as well as widespread disturbances throughout the city.

An assessment has been requested to evaluate the full extent of the situation, and plans are also underway to potentially acquire traps to contain increasingly aggressive wild boars.

Di Muro expressed hope that the intervention from regional authorities would help resolve the escalating issue.

This request for exceptional hunting permissions follows a recent meeting between Mayor Di Muro, Agricultural Affairs Assistant Serena Calcopietro, and representatives from professional agricultural associations Coldiretti, Confagricoltura, and CIA to discuss the challenges posed by wild boars and other sector-related matters, including the timing of agricultural waste burning.
