Monaco National Council Engages in Palliative Care Legislation Discussion
Jean Leonetti, a key figure in French palliative care laws, shares insights with Monaco’s National Council as they work on a new palliative care access bill.
The National Council of Monaco convened with Jean Leonetti, the Mayor of Antibes and a prominent figure in French palliative care legislation, to discuss Bill No. 1081. This proposed legislation aims to ensure access to palliative care for patients suffering from advanced or terminal stages of serious illnesses.
Leonetti, a former minister and deputy, has a significant background in this area, having authored the French laws legislating patient rights in 2005 and 2016.
During the meeting, which took place in the committee focused on social interests and diverse affairs, council members noted the value of Leonetti's experiences in providing insights into the ethical, medical, and legislative challenges associated with palliative care.
According to a press release from the council, his involvement fostered a deeper understanding among the elected officials regarding this sensitive issue.
The discussions are part of ongoing consultations aimed at gathering comprehensive feedback from various stakeholders.
These include the palliative care service at the Princess Grace Hospital Center (CHPG).
The goal is to craft a balanced response that adequately addresses the needs of patients and their families while reflecting the complexities of the palliative care landscape in Monaco.
The National Council continues to prioritize such consultations to inform the legislative process surrounding palliative care.
