Potential Ban on Nice Supporters Following Disturbance in Monaco
The 108th encounter between AS Monaco and OGC Nice has raised concerns over fan behavior and public safety.
The recent match between A.S. Monaco and O.G.C. Nice, held on March 28, 2025, concluded with a 2-1 victory for Monaco.
However, the game is being overshadowed by significant disturbances involving Nice supporters in the adjacent commune of Cap D’Ail.
Reports indicate that thousands of fans engaged in various acts of vandalism, including breaking bottles, setting off flares, obstructing roadways, and littering the beach.
Xavier Beck, the mayor of Cap D'Ail, expressed strong discontent regarding the actions of the Nice supporters, noting an escalation in problematic behavior over the years.
He stated in an interview that his frustration has reached a peak, highlighting that fan activities included threats to 'invade the principality' and utilized dangerous pyrotechnics along their route.
Video footage circulating on social media documents a large crowd of supporters gathering hours before the match, with noticeable pyrotechnic displays and road blockages.
Additionally, some of the attendees were reported to have congregated on Marquet beach, leaving behind significant amounts of garbage after their departure.
In response to the incidents, Mayor Beck has reportedly requested that the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes implement a ban on future travel for Nice supporters to Monaco.
This proposed action signals an escalating concern for public order and safety in light of the disturbances surrounding the recent derby.
