Screening of _Ninotchka_ at Monaco's Théâtre des Variétés
The classic comedy featuring Greta Garbo will be showcased in March 2025.
The Audiovisual Institute of Monaco has scheduled a screening of the film _Ninotchka_ (1939) at the Théâtre des Variétés on March 18, 2025. Directed by Ernst Lubitsch, this romantic comedy stars Greta Garbo as the title character, a serious and strict Soviet envoy sent to Paris to oversee the sale of confiscated jewelry.
The narrative follows her encounter with Count Léon d'Algout, portrayed by Melvyn Douglas, a charming and carefree aristocrat whose influence disrupts her convictions and emotional defenses.
The film artfully contrasts communist rigidity with Parisian frivolity, providing a light yet incisive satire of the ideologies prevalent at the time.
_Ninotchka_ received four Academy Award nominations and won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
The screening will take place on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 7 PM at the Théâtre des Variétés, located at 1 Boulevard Albert Ier.
Tickets are priced at 8 euros, with a reduced rate of 4 euros for individuals under 25. For further information and reservations, interested parties can visit the official website or contact the institution at 97 98 43 26.
