World Environment Day 2025 Celebrated with Focus on Plastic Pollution

Global initiative underscores commitment to environmental awareness and carbon neutrality.
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5, initiated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and recognized as the largest global platform for public awareness on environmental issues.

In 2025, festivities centered on the theme "Combating Plastic Pollution," aligning with international goals for improved sustainability.

In Monaco, the Government's commitment to environmental preservation and the ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 was highlighted through various public awareness efforts.

The Direction de l’Environnement hosted informative stands along Princesse Caroline Street, offering interactive experiences focused on the year's theme.

Visitors of all ages engaged with educational activities, which included entertaining yet informative presentations on eco-friendly practices and the distribution of innovative giveaways made from 100% recycled materials.

These initiatives stressed alternatives to single-use plastics and promoted workshops centered on "zero plastic" lifestyles.

Collaborating with local entities such as Ecoscience Provence, which provided workshops on sustainable practices, the Government highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing plastic waste.

Additionally, the "MaConsigne" initiative, spearheaded by the Mission for Energy Transition, presented solutions for reducing plastic consumption, while the "Petite boîte" initiative promoted responsible tourism practices in Monaco.

Local organizations green-lighted their participation through logistics solutions offered by Green Box Monaco and Ecoslowasting, further incubating the concepts of sustainability within local operations.

The Jardin Animalier showcased live animals, including chickens and turtles, to reinforce the message of biodiversity and the importance of wildlife preservation.

The observance of World Environment Day in 2025 forms part of a continuous effort to elevate awareness regarding environmental sustainability globally, urging communities and individuals to participate actively in initiatives aimed at combating plastic pollution.
