Alizé Cornet Confirms Absence from Roland-Garros 2025
The French tennis player, returning from a nearly year-long hiatus, will not compete in this year's tournament.
Alizé Cornet, the French tennis player and former world number 11, has announced that she will not participate in the upcoming Roland-Garros tournament, scheduled to take place from May 25 to June 8, 2025. This statement was made during a video posted by the organizers of the WTA 125 tournament in La Bisbal d'Emporda, Spain, marking her return to the professional circuit after a nearly one-year break.
Cornet, 35, announced her retirement from professional tennis following a first-round loss at Roland-Garros in May 2024. However, she surprised many by revealing her return to competition last week.
She is scheduled to compete first in the WTA 125 event in La Bisbal d'Emporda before heading to the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen, which will take place from April 14 to 20, 2025. Cornet has received a wildcard entry that allows her to participate directly in the main draw of this event.
Currently ranked 532nd in the world, Cornet has six WTA titles to her name.
In her recent video statement, she expressed optimism about her training, stating, "I have trained very hard to be ready for this tournament" and emphasized her enjoyment of returning to the court by saying, "I smile all the time; I feel a bit like a teenager!"
As she prepares for her upcoming match against Irene Burillo from Spain, who is ranked 231st, Cornet hopes to maintain a positive mindset and advance as far as possible in the tournament.
Her journey back into competitive tennis is closely watched by fans and commentators alike, particularly in light of her previous achievements.
