Israeli security forces, including the Shin Bet internal security agency, announced the arrest of two Israeli citizens suspected of engaging in intelligence activities for Iran.

This action ties into ongoing military tensions between Israel and Iran, with the arrests occurring in the context of heightened conflict initiated on October 7, 2023, by a significant attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israeli territory.

The suspects, described as Jewish citizens of Israel, are alleged to have committed security offenses under the direction of Iranian intelligence services.

A high official from Shin Bet highlighted the risks posed by collaborations with Iran, asserting that the information provided by these individuals could be used to harm the State of Israel.

Since the onset of the Gaza conflict, the Shin Bet has reported thwarting 22 cases related to espionage or actions involving Iranian assistance.

These previous cases reportedly included a range of activities, from photographing military installations to plotting the assassination of senior Israeli officials.

Currently, a censorship order prohibits the publication of further details regarding the investigation and the identity of the suspects involved in these cases.
