Lenny Martinez Clinches Victory in Final Stage of Critérium du Dauphiné
The 21-year-old French cyclist secures his third World Tour win, finishing ahead of elite competitors.
Lenny Martinez, a 21-year-old cyclist from Montauroux, France, achieved a significant milestone by winning the final stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné at the Plateau du Mont Cenis.
This victory marks Martinez's third win in the World Tour series this year, adding to his previous stage wins at Paris-Nice and the Tour de Romandie.
On Sunday, during the 8th and concluding stage of the Dauphiné, Martinez was part of a breakaway group that included renowned cyclists such as Enric Mas, Roksas Kuus, and Ben Healy.
The young athlete managed to keep pace with Mas and, ultimately, broke away from the group.
Despite facing a strong challenge from two of cycling's leading figures, Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar, who were in pursuit, Martinez finished with a 34-second advantage over Vingegaard.
In his post-race reflections, Martinez indicated that he had struggled earlier in the competition but felt better during the final stage.
He remarked that during the race, doubts lingered about the possibility of winning, particularly when facing the strong competition of Pogacar and Vingegaard.
Nevertheless, he pushed through to secure the victory, stating that he initially aimed for a higher overall placement but was satisfied with how the week concluded.
Martinez's next target is the Tour de France, where he intends to focus on securing a stage win rather than contending for the overall general classification.
