Monaco Celebrates International Francophonie Day at UNESCO
Monaco participates in discussions on cultural diversity and gender equality.
On May 13, 2025, the Principality of Monaco participated in the celebration of International Francophonie Day at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, following an invitation from the Group of Francophone Ambassadors to UNESCO (GAFU).
This event marked the 20th anniversary of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, to which Monaco has been a party since 2006.
The day's proceedings began with a conference dedicated to assessing the achievements of the Convention, particularly in promoting gender equality, enhancing the status of women artists, and supporting the cultural industry, notably in Africa.
Participants highlighted the crucial role of GAFU, which includes Monaco as a member, in the international implementation of this Convention.
Several projects funded by the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (FIDC), established under the Convention, were showcased during the event.
Notable initiatives included Africadoc in Côte d'Ivoire and Prod’It in Tunisia, both aimed at strengthening the cultural sector in their respective countries.
The celebration concluded with a tasting event featuring "Francophone flavors," showcasing the culinary diversity of the member states represented.
Monaco highlighted its own culinary heritage by presenting barbagiuans, traditional delicacies symbolic of its cultural identity.
