Primark CEO Paul Marchant Resigns Amid Inquiry into Conduct

Paul Marchant, the Chief Executive Officer of Primark, has resigned following an investigation into his conduct towards a woman, announced on March 31, 2025, by Associated British Foods (ABF), Primark's parent company.
The investigation was conducted by external lawyers and was initiated in response to an allegation regarding Marchant's behavior in a social setting.
According to the statement, Marchant has cooperated with the investigation, acknowledged a lapse in judgment, and accepted that his actions did not meet the company's expected standards.
In the official communication, it was indicated that Marchant has apologized to the individual involved, the ABF board of directors, his colleagues at Primark, and others connected with the company.
ABF has emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment, where all employees and third parties are treated with dignity and respect.
The company expressed support for the individual who raised the concern about the behavior.
George Weston, the Chief Executive of ABF, expressed his disappointment in the situation, highlighting that responsible behavior is essential for the long-term management and construction of a company.
Marchant had been with Primark since 2009, first joining as Managing Director and eventually taking on the CEO role.
Eoin Tonge, the Chief Financial Officer of ABF, has been appointed as interim CEO following Marchant's resignation.
