Rakyb Mohamed Radji Wins WBC Mediterranean Title at Boxing Gala in Menton
The young French boxer triumphs over Spain's Juan Hinostroza in a thrilling midnight bout, while the event supports local youth in need.
In a highly anticipated boxing gala held at the Palais de l'Europe in Menton, France, Rakyb Mohamed Radji, known as "Le Rak," secured the WBC Mediterranean title in the flyweight category.
The championship bout against Juan Hinostroza from Spain took place in the early hours of Sunday, following an array of amateur and professional matches.
The ten-round fight showcased a fierce competition marked by intense exchanges, with Radji ultimately winning by a split decision from the judges.
This victory adds to Radji's accolades, as he was crowned the French champion at the same venue in April 2024.
Organiser Maxime Brandimarte noted the thrilling nature of the match, highlighting the experience and toughness of Hinostroza that contributed to a closely contested fight, which kept the audience engaged throughout.
The boxing event, featuring a total of ten bouts, also emphasized a charitable cause, dedicated to Mady and Calvin, two local youths who recently lost their mother.
Both boys were gifted an all-expenses-paid trip to Disneyland, a gesture of support that resonated deeply with the community and was acknowledged by Menton’s mayor, Yves Juhel.
Brandimarte, who has orchestrated the Menton Boxing Stars event since 2016, expressed pride in maintaining this charitable tradition.
The evening also marked the farewell of Jean-Claude Chomette from the sport, following his final fight against Italy's Giacomo Ruggiero, which he won in the -80kg category.
Chomette, a beloved figure from Team MB 375, received a warm send-off from local supporters.
In addition to Radji's title match, the event featured various bouts, including:
Professional - Lightweight (6 rounds): Jordan Tomasoni (Team MB 375) beat Luka Megreli (Georgia).
Professional - Super Middleweight (6 rounds): Clément Lubrano (Fréjus) won against Mark Jamiu (Marseille).
Professional - WBC Mediterranean Flyweight Title (10 rounds): Rakyb Mohamed Radji (France) defeated Juan Hinostroza (Spain).
The event concluded with a strong showing of community spirit and sportsmanship, reflecting both the competitive nature of boxing and the social commitment of its organizers.
