AS Monaco Triumphs in Côte d'Azur Derby Against OGC Nice

A spirited second-half comeback secures a 2-1 victory for AS Monaco, elevating them to second place in Ligue 1.
AS Monaco secured a crucial 2-1 victory against OGC Nice in the latest installment of their historic rivalry, marking the 108th confrontation between the two clubs.

The match took place amid the 'Week of Education Against Racism and Antisemitism', where players from both teams wore jerseys emblazoned with the message: 'No to Racism'.

Thiago Scuro, the General Director of AS Monaco, presented a special jersey to representatives of LICRA Monaco prior to kickoff.

The match commenced with high intensity and Monaco displaying early dominance.

Just minutes in, Embolo earned a penalty for Monaco, but Nice's goalkeeper Bulka successfully saved Biereth's attempt.

The home side continued to press, coming close when Minamino hit the crossbar shortly after.

Despite Monaco's pressure, Nice took a surprising lead just before halftime when Boga headed in a cross from Clauss, leaving Monaco trailing 0-1 at the break.

In the second half, AS Monaco maintained their momentum and were eventually rewarded.

Biereth equalized in the 56th minute with a powerful shot following an assist from Akliouche.

This marked Biereth's 12th goal in Ligue 1, further solidifying his impact on the field.

As the match progressed, Monaco's attacking duo of Biereth and Akliouche continued to challenge Nice's defense.

The decisive moment came in the 73rd minute when Embolo, benefiting from a well-executed play, scored to put Monaco ahead 2-1, marking his fifth goal of the season.

Despite late opportunities for both sides, including a chance for Balogun, the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.

The victory propelled AS Monaco to second place in Ligue 1, with strong performances from key players illuminating their path forward.

The match was attended by 11,564 spectators at the Stade Louis-II, where the atmosphere showcased the passionate support for both teams.

Following the match, President Dmitri Rybolovlev commended the players for their efforts and resilience.

Monaco's next fixture will be an away match against Brest on April 5.
