Millennium Management to Establish Presence in Monaco, Reinforcing Financial Hub Status

Millennium Management to Establish Presence in Monaco, Reinforcing Financial Hub Status

The American hedge fund prepares to launch operations in the Principality, tapping into its continued appeal for global finance.
In a strategic move underscoring Monaco’s enduring attractiveness to major financial players worldwide, American hedge fund Millennium Management is set to open an office in the Principality.

According to reports, Ziad Kerbage, formerly at Maven Securities, has been appointed as the first portfolio manager at the new Monaco branch.

His primary role will involve assembling a local team to expand the fund's activities in the region.

The firm has reportedly initiated the local authorization process required for this establishment.

Kerbage joined Maven in 2018, having previously worked as a trader at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Morgan Stanley, bringing significant financial sector experience to this pivotal position.

Monaco's growing reputation as a hub for high finance fits within a broader trend.

The Principality has long been a favored destination for the global financial elite, with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. opening an office there in early 2022 and hedge fund Caxton Associates also operating in the area.

Founded in 1989 by billionaire Izzy Englander, Millennium Management has emerged as a key player in global alternative finance, currently managing nearly $75 billion in assets.

The firm is recognized among the most profitable hedge funds of 2024, with reported gains of approximately $9.4 billion, according to financial insights from industry analysts.

It employs over 340 trading teams and is known for its commitment to innovation, evolution, and high-quality returns for investors.

Millennium enables skilled professionals to pursue diverse investment strategies across various sectors, asset classes, and geographic regions.

The choice of Monaco as a new base may reflect the personal preferences of Millennium's traders, as the firm sometimes selects its locations based on such considerations.

The Principality also recently announced its affiliation with the Space Climate Observatory (SCO), a global initiative aimed at utilizing spatial tools and data to analyze climate change.

This affiliation supports Monaco’s involvement in international climate discussions and positions it within a network of partners focused on climate resilience management.

On April 4, 2025, Monaco further strengthened its international relations by joining the @ON operational network against organized crime.

This initiative, launched in 2018 and coordinated by Europol and Eurojust, facilitates the sharing of strategic information among police services in member states and aids in the coordination of operational actions.

The partnership aims to enhance investigative capabilities against organized crime and transnational criminal networks.
