Eliot Matazo Transfers to Hull City from AS Monaco Amid Championship Battle

The 22-year-old midfielder commits to Hull City while the team faces relegation challenges.
Eliot Matazo, a 22-year-old midfielder from AS Monaco, has signed with Hull City in England's Championship League.

Matazo is bound to the club under a three-and-half-year contract.

Hull City currently stands 22nd in the Championship, hovering around the relegation zone.

Matazo joined AS Monaco from Anderlecht in 2018 and has played 84 matches with the club.

However, under manager Adi Hütter's leadership, he was fielded only seven times this season.

Under former AS Monaco manager Niko Kovac, Matazo made notable progress but saw his rise halted with the signing of Jean Lucas in the summer of 2021. Following Kovac's departure, Matazo struggled to secure a consistent starting position under subsequent managers Philippe Clement and Adi Hütter.

The transfer is expected to gain AS Monaco between 2 and 2.5 million euros.

Meanwhile, AS Monaco's Brazilian left-back Caio Henrique is not selected for the upcoming Ligue 1 match against Rennes due to ongoing recovery challenges after a knee ligament injury last year.

Henrique, 27, has played 21 matches this season with one assist, as his form continues to be a concern for the team.

In addition, AS Monaco will be without Ivorian defender Wilfried Singo, with a hamstring injury sidelining him for three to five weeks.

Other players not selected for the match include George Ilenikhena, Folarin Balogun, and Bouabré among others.

The current squad list includes goalkeepers Lienard, Majecki, Köhn, defenders such as Kehrer and Mawissa, midfielders Akliouche and Ben Seghir, and attackers Embolo and Biereth.
