The Boustany Family: A Discreet but Influential Force in Monaco-Lebanon Relations

Exploring the legacy and contributions of the Boustany family, who wield significant influence in Monaco through hospitality and art.
The Boustany family, a prominent yet discreet dynasty in Monaco, is markedly influential in both the Principality and in their native Lebanon.

Patriarch Nabil Boustany, known for his role in the renaissance of the Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo, established the family's foothold in Monaco in the 1970s.

Nabil, born in Lebanon in 1924, was a scion of a lineage distinguished by statesmanship and scholarship.

He transitioned from Lebanese politics to real estate, acquiring the Hôtel Métropole, which he transformed into a luxurious establishment frequented by the elite.

Following his death in 2009, he left behind a vast commercial empire valued in billions, including the Hôtel Métropole, its celebrated restaurant Les Ambassadeurs, and the Givenchy spa.

His sons, Fadi and Majid Boustany, have continued to uphold their father’s legacy, managing the family’s hotel and art endeavors, respectively.

Fadi Boustany, born in 1967, has been credited with modernizing the Hôtel Métropole.

A graduate of the University of Cambridge, he is known for his philanthropic contributions, including a substantial donation to his alma mater for the construction of a new business school building.

His leadership is heralded for embodying a vision of discretion and excellence in hospitality.

Majid Boustany, born in 1966, is a dedicated art collector heavily influenced by British painter Francis Bacon.

In 2014, he founded the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation in Monaco, which has become a key cultural institution supporting research and promotion of Bacon’s work.

He has amassed over 3,500 pieces in the collection and engaged in high-profile philanthropy, including a notable contribution to the Louvre.

Both brothers maintain a close relationship with the Princely Family of Monaco, reflecting the family's deep connections to the Principality and their Lebanese heritage.

The Boustany family's engagement with Lebanon continues to play an important role in their narrative.

They have actively contributed to humanitarian efforts in Lebanon, such as the reconstruction of churches and community support following the 2020 Beirut explosion.

In recognition of their contributions, Majid Boustany has received notable honors, including being named an Officer of the Order of Cultural Merit by Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The familial ties between Monaco and Lebanon remain robust, characterized by ongoing mutual support and cultural exchanges, embodying a discreet yet powerful influence that the Boustany family represents.
