OGC Nice Faces Reims in Decisive Match Amid Celebrations for Nice-Matin's 80th Anniversary

OGC Nice Faces Reims in Decisive Match Amid Celebrations for Nice-Matin's 80th Anniversary

The historic clash at Allianz Riviera marks a significant milestone for the local newspaper while impacting Nice's Champions League ambitions.
OGC Nice is set to face Reims in a critical encounter on the evening of May 2, 2025, at Allianz Riviera, coinciding with the 80th anniversary celebration of the local newspaper, Nice-Matin.

The match, scheduled to kick off at 20:45, holds considerable significance for the club as it aims to maintain its hopes of qualifying for the prestigious UEFA Champions League.

The atmosphere leading up to the match has been charged with a sense of unity, as OGC Nice and Nice-Matin celebrate their longstanding relationship.

Franck Haise, the coach of OGC Nice, recognized the importance of the anniversary, citing that while the club itself is older, the achievement of 80 years for the newspaper is noteworthy.

The club is striving for a crowd exceeding 24,000 spectators to witness a victory that would align with the celebratory spirit of the occasion.

Following a recent remarkable performance in Paris, fans are buoyed by their team’s prospects, showcasing a blend of optimism and determination.

In their last outing, OGC Nice secured a notable triumph against Arsenal, with goalkeeper Marcin Bulka achieving twelve saves, and players Morgan Sanson and Badredine Bouanani making significant contributions.

However, the squad faced some adversity, losing key players Abdul Abdelmonem and Youssouf to serious injuries, which have overshadowed their recent success as teammates process the dual loss.

Bulka expressed the emotional weight in the locker room post-victory, recognizing the impact of their injured colleagues on the team's morale and focus.

Despite past injuries, Bulka emphasized the need to continue the season with enthusiasm and unity, drawing strength from their challenges.

Haise reiterated the importance of positivity heading into the match against Reims, suggesting that keeping focused on playing rather than dwelling on potential calculations for league standings is crucial.

He acknowledged the unpredictability inherent in football, supporting a mindset that encourages taking each match as it comes.

The anticipation for the anniversary match includes various promotional activities.

An exhibition displaying significant past front pages of Nice-Matin will be showcased outside the stadium prior to the match, starting at 17:45. Additionally, a live broadcast of the sports program Gym Tonic is set to take place from the stadium, featuring notable figures such as Jean-Pierre Rivère, president of OGC Nice, and Simon Perrot, general director of Nice-Matin.

In terms of team lineup changes, OGC Nice will need to adapt to the absence of two defenders due to injuries.

The return of Bombito was noted as a possible reinforcement, and the availability of captain Dante remains uncertain as he continues to recover.

Antoine Mendy may also step in to bolster the defense.

In terms of player performance, Gaëtan Laborde is expected to maintain his role as the leading striker, while the return of Terem Moffi to the starting eleven appears imminent as his conditioning improves.

Special giveaways, including a collector’s jersey decorated with historic front pages from Nice-Matin, are planned for attendees, enhancing the festive atmosphere as the match looms closer.
